Welcome
A Little About Me
Horses have been my passion since I was seven. Upon our return from a family vacation in Chama, New Mexico I began my training with Jan Ball Performance Horses and showed with her for eight years. Jan taught me the importance of safety when working with horses and she gave me a sound foundation in horsemanship.
Summers between the ages of 12 and 18 were spent at The Orme School Summer Camp in Arizona, first as a traditional camper and then in the Intensified Horsemanship Program. I realized I love teaching kids to ride the summer I was old enough to be a counselor and returned to Orme for another two summers as an assistant barn manager. If you are looking for a boarding school or summer camp, I highly recommend the Orme programs.
While at the University of Arizona I studied equine management and worked during the summer months for rope horse trainer Lucy Bishop exercising her clients' horses in training.
My next step in education came when I interned at Double Dollar Livestock in Holden, Utah. Greg Kesler taught me not only about ranching, roping, and colt starting but, more importantly, he taught me the importance of honesty and integrity in business!
I returned to Southern California and went to work for Callie Bell Performance Horses in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. My jobs included schooling horses, assisting clients at horse shows, giving lessons to all levels of riding ability and managing/teaching the pony camp for four years. Look for reviews at Chris Margrave Yelp.com.
Chris Margrave Equine Services was born out of the realization that a large number of people were looking for help with their horses but did not want to be part of a show barn. I was able to continue with Callie and my own clients until January 2014 when I relocated my business to the Central Coast.
My thanks to Jan Ball, The Orme School, Greg Kesler, Lucy Bishop and Callie Bell for giving me a sound foundation on which to build my business. Safety, Patience, Knowledge and Joy are what I endeavor to pass along to my clients.
